What Are You Feeling....Mixed Media Place Challenge

This months "emotional" challenge at Mixed Media Place is "Sadness". A difficult emotion to express and perhaps one we like to keep private. For some people, expressing emotions like sadness or anger through a creative outlet is very therapeutic. Art, dance and music have been the platform for the most amazing creative works expressing sadness and of course every other emotion as well.
I have chosen the easier path and have gone with a light hearted approach. I found this quote "Depresso" on Pinterest and created a mixed media journal page.

Started with a piece of patterned paper, Domestic Goddess "Kitchen Wallpaper" added some paper strips and tape, gessoed over it all, used the Sunrise Sunset stencil with some mist, stamped with a Finnabair Clear Stamp Doily and embossed it with black.

I played with some more stamping and added pattern and texture with another stencil and texture paste and high lighted this with colour using beautiful Silks Acrylic glaze. I know I always say "beautiful" Silks Acrylic Glaze, but these are amazing. If you love to add colour to your pages and haven't tried these yet I can promise you that you won't be disappointed....the colour is deep, vibrant and rich and it applies so smoothly, they are one of my favourite mediums to use.

I do love my coffee, and yes, I'm sorry when my cup is empty but I know this hardly rates on the "sadness" scale.

Thank you for visiting today. Have a great week and if any sadness exists in your life, may it only be in the confines of your creativity.

"POSE"........paperDVIZHNIK Challenge #36

Hello. Sometimes it's good to keep things simple. This page has been created for paperDVIZHNIK's latest challenge with the theme of "POSE". This page is all about the photo. My daughter, a dancer, in the beautiful arabesque position just messing around in her "trackies" and boots. The strong lines in the photo are created by the pose. This is what I wanted to highlight, so I've deliberately left lots of white space around it.
I've matched up the damask patterned paper with a damask stencil and created some texture with texture paste. Coloured it with distress stains and water colour paint.
Embellishments .......simple, 1 Prima wood flower and a couple of sequins.
I'm not usually a fan of sparkly, shiny things on lay-outs but the simplicity of this page allowed for a little "extravagance".
Have a look at the varied and oh so inspirational pages created by the rest of the team HERE at paperDVIZNIK

Thanks for visiting today, may the creative force be with you and your week ahead be full of inspirational possibilities.

Mexican Sugar Skull.........Mixed Media Place

Here is my recent project made for Mixed Media Place.
This polystyrene skull has been looking at me from a shelf for over 2 years. I thought it was time to bring it to life in celebration of the departed. Inspired by the beautiful bright and intricately detailed Mexican Sugar Skulls, used as part of  the Day Of The Dead celebrations, I created my own version using paints, paper and metal embellishments.

It says "Feed Me Inspiration". For me, that's the key to creativity.
Silks acrylic glazes, Ecoline liquid water colours, and Sparkling H2Os can create such richness and depth of colour but can be equally soft when watered down.

My love of colour, florals and detailed pattern took over.
There are lots of beautiful metal embellishments available now, and Ranger patinas are perfect for colouring them.

I've made a video: just a series of photos really showing the process from start to finish.
Where ever you are, what ever you're doing have a great weekend.

Scrap Around The World February Challenge

Here is the beautiful February mood board designed by Christin Gronnslett.
Look at the gorgeous colours in this mood board and there is so much inspiration from the faded dark to light icing on the cake, the gold on the pots to the zig zags, stripes and hearts.
Take at look at the inspirational projects the DT have created HERE at Scrap Around The World, check out the rules of play (they are not hard and journal pages and canvases are allowed, in fact, encouraged )

Well it's pretty obvious what I was influenced by from the mood board. I have gotten into a very bad habit of always wanting to have something sweet with my morning coffee....a muffin or little cake is my preferred option, thank you. The colours too I loved, so this is a journal page acknowledging my very bad habit and protesting at the thought of giving it up....at least Marie Antoinette would be on my side.

Paper layers, gessoed over, machine stitch stamp ( love this ), circles drawn with water colour pencils then gone over with using a wet paint brush.

After drawing the cake onto water colour paper I coloured it with paints and pencils and used a small spot stencil with Teal Blue StazOn Ink to do the paper patty pan case. I then cut it out, popped a doily under it and stuck it onto my page.

Combination of Distress Stains, paint and colour pencils. A Finnabair Sunrise Sunset stencil used with texture paste and a Finnabair Clear Stamp embossed.
